The story behind Iron Tracker
My name is David Tizin. I am 17 years old, and Iron Tracker was born from my own experience with hemochromatosis.
When I was 10 years old, I was diagnosed with hereditary hemochromatosis, C282Y/H63D type. At that time, my family and I faced a difficult challenge. Medical tests showed that I had iron overload, and we had to learn how to manage it carefully.
Because I was still too young to become a blood donor, diet became one of the most important ways for us to help reduce the level of iron in my blood and then keep it within a safer range.
We quickly discovered how difficult it was to understand how much iron different foods contain and how cooking methods affect the amount of iron in a meal. The information available was often incomplete, inconsistent, or simply difficult to use in everyday life.
After going through this experience myself, I decided to create Iron Tracker โ an app for children, teenagers, and adults who need to manage their iron intake. Its goal is to make daily nutrition tracking simpler and more understandable, helping people better understand how much iron they consume through food each day.
Since I am not yet 18, I was supported by our family friend Mikhail Ilin, who helped with the Apple Developer Program requirements and the publication process for the app.
Iron Tracker is not a medical device and does not replace professional medical advice. But I hope it can become a useful everyday tool for people who, like me, need to manage iron intake more consciously.
